Dave Behrens commenced painting in acrylics in 2002 to explore the theme of identity. It’s a theme that investigates the identity of self predominately, yet. He is drawn to the concept of identity in others. He uses mark-making and pattern forming to express these ideas of identity. There’s an intention to use colors and associations to commit ideas to address this expression.
Painting story
I am a traditional painter and use acrylic paint to create bold and colourful works of art featuring symbols and mark making. My inspiration of designing a SuperGiro came from my painting from 2020 called “Pill of Life” which was a symbolic work created in response to COVID-19 whilst in lockdown in Melbourne. I created digital imprints of some of the symbols from that painting and adorned the body of SuperGiro to create a bold and colourful figure. SuperGiro is Life Force!
